We have an overnight train from Innsbruck (12.56am) to Ljubljana Slovenia (8.13am) - we booked a 6 birth sleeper carriage (couchette) which we needed with all our gear. We all have backpacks as we have learnt from previous travelling that wheeled bags have difficulty on the rough paths in Europe. Last trip Addison’s bag lost a wheel in the middle of Florence. That makes it difficult to get around.
We had arranged early entry to our accommodation. This was organised ages ago through booking.com and was within walking distance to the train station. It was a spacious two bedroom apartment - and although it was next to the railway line we hardly heard any train noise because of the thick wall and double glazed windows.
After a lovely shower we headed off for our free walking tour of town. Unfortunately it was raining all day and we didn’t have umbrellas. We were prepared though and had waterproof outerwear. Also, because it was only 3oC we needed to be rugged up against the cold. Rain and cold - what a start.
The tour was with Ljubljana free tours and had about 25 travelers - not even the weather can stop a determined tourist. Our guide Nina showed us around the city centre and explained the history and important features of the area. It goes back about 40000 years!
